Our FY19 officer bios are below.

Genna D'Antonio – President

Genevieve D’Antonio is an Electronics Engineer at the U.S Naval Research Laboratory and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Engineering Management at Old Dominion University. Her involvement with SWE began at James Madison University (JMU) where she had the opportunity to get JMU SWE officially chartered. She graduated from JMU in 2015 with a B.S in Engineering and a Minor in Business. During her time as a student, she held many JMU SWE leadership positions and is now the JMU SWE counselor. She volunteered on the Region E Sponsorship Committee for many years and was the Richmond SWE Section Representative in FY17.

Ana Gordon – Vice President

Carly DeHenau – Treasurer

A Michigan State University Alumni graduated with a Packaging Science degree in 2005 and a Master of Science in Packaging degree in 2010. She followed her career path to Richmond, VA and has worked for MeadWestvaco for 3 years. Through work she has discovered SWE and traveled to Houston and Baltimore for the National Conference in 2012 and 2013, respectively. In her spare time you will find her enjoying the Richmond city life and festivals, playing euchre (it is a card game!), swimming, and sitting in the sun with a good book.

Sarah Bettinger - Secretary & Richmond Joint Engineers Council Representative

Sarah graduated with an undergrad in Civil Engineering from Missouri S&T and earned her Master’s in Structural Engineering from UAB. She has recently relocated to Richmond and is a Structural Engineer with Brockenbrough where she primarily designs buildings and fuel storage structures for government and military clients. She is active in several engineering societies and is excited to be a part of the Richmond SWE Section. Sarah loves being outside and spends her free time gardening, hiking, and traveling the world.

Erica Bennett – Social Chair

A 2015 graduate of Virginia Tech, Erica is an Electrical Engineer working for Dominion at a power plant in Chesterfield. She loves working in the field and is focused mainly on controls and electrical support systems throughout the plant. Erica has only been involved in SWE for about a year, but was a member of the IEEE student chapter at Virginia Tech, and is very active in the Virginia Tech Alumni Association. When she isn't cheering on the Hokies during football season, she loves to travel and relax by the pool with a good book.

Carol Polen – Outreach Chair

A Virginia Tech alumni with an undergraduate degree in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research and an MBA from UNC Charlotte. She enjoyed a rewarding 25 year career working for Verizon and Dominion before shifting her focus from the corporate world to the education world. After teaching Physics in two Richmond area high schools, Carol now works with a variety of STEM outreach programs, including the Society of Women Engineers. She has been a member of SWE since 1998 and enjoys cycling and traveling in her free time.
