Join us for a tour of Hardywood Brewery at their Westcreek Facility! This will be a specialized tour to understand the science and engineering behind the brewing process.

Regional TSA Competition - March 3

There is a regional TSA competition hosted by the Technology Student Association at Deep Run High School on March 3rd. They are looking for volunteers to judge the competition.

Engineering Night - April 11th

Bellwood Elementary School is hosting a Kindergarten Engineering Night for their students. There will be multiple stations with engineering and STEM activities. SWE is hosting a table with an engineering activity.  Stations will be 20 minutes long with 5-7 children at each round. The theme of the event is fairy tales! Pizza will be provided for dinner.

Girls in Science - March 24th

Middle School girls join forces with professional women to learn all about inventors and innovation in this overnight adventure. Students will discover how to work through the design process, explore engineering concepts in hands-on workshops, get inspired by a guest speaker, and watch Dream Big in the Dome. 

SWE-Richmond will be volunteering with DuPont and the Science Museum of Virginia to help out at the event.

Engineer's Week Networking Breakfast - February 22nd

Join us for an E-Week networking breakfast with students at the Governors Academy for Engineering Studies! There will be a grab and go breakfast for the students and an opportunity for them to meet women engineers. All SWE members are invited to attend and network with the students.

SWE Day with First Robotics - February 10th

When: February 10th from 1-3pm
Where: Powertrain Control Solutions, Ashland VA

The Richmond-SWE Section will be visiting the Deep Run High School's First Robotics Team to see the robot that they are building. We will be providing feedback on electrical design, coding, mechanical design, etc. It is also a great opportunity for the students to have female engineering mentors and role models and to see engineering professionals in action.

The students have 6 weeks to design and build their competition robot before bagging it. They will continue working on their secondary duplicate robot. This year the theme of the competition is 8 bit video games!  The manual for the competition can be found in the attached file below.

Let's Do Some Engineering at the YMCA - February 22, 2018

SWE Richmond is partnering with the YMCA for an engineering outreach activity in their after-school program. Volunteers are needed to work with middle school students on two hands-on engineering activities.

In the "Ship the Chip" activity, students will use household materials to pack a Pringle into a box, then simulate shipping it via a drop test. The team with the most intact chip and the lightest packaging is declared the winner.

In the "Pollution Patrol" activity, students will locate the source of an environmental pollutant by systematically testing soil-water samples.

Women in Engineering Panel with SWE-VCU

SWE Richmond will be putting together a panel for SWE VCU to discuss our experiences as women in engineering. We are looking for volunteers to be panelists at the event, and all SWE Richmond members are invited to join us. SWE VCU will be inviting all women students at the VCU School of Engineering, and we usually have about 40 collegiates in attendance. Networking will follow the panel. Sandwiches will be served.

Hot Chocolate & Ornament Social - December 17th, 1-3pm

Please join us for our annual hot chocolate and ornament crafting social. We will serve hot chocolate and snacks, and we will supply craft supplies for attendees to decorate a holiday ornament. We'll see old friends again, meet new ones, and catch up on work and life chat.

Ornaments, decorations, cookies, and hot chocolate will be supplied by SWE-RVA. Members who are willing are welcome to bring holiday cookies for all to enjoy. Friends or co-workers who are interested in becoming active members of SWE are welcome to attend. Families are welcome!

*If you'd like us to offer non-dairy milk, please let us know your preference (almond milk, soy milk, etc.) when you RSVP.
