Check out our events page for upcoming events. We have a mix of engineering outreach, professional development, and social events planned for the next few months. Our calendar page lists our events plan through the rest of our fiscal year.
We're accepting applications for our scholarship now through March 1.
SWE's mid-Atlantic region will be holding our conference February 24-26 in Syracuse. This will be the last regional conference as SWE transitions to WE Local conferences that will be smaller versions of the large annual WE conference. The first WE Local conferences will also be held in February in Pittsburgh and San Jose.
We'll be hosting our annual planning meeting on Sunday, October 2 at a member's house. All members are invited to join us. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to RSVP and get directions.
We plan to continue successful events like our hot chocolate social and our Women in Engineering panel at VCU, and we'll be thinking up some new events like a group outing to the movie Hidden Figures about NASA physicist Katherine Johnson.
We'll begin our monthly conference calls in October.
The Society of Women Engineers also offers Society-level scholarships. The upperclassmen application period has closed, but freshman scholarships are open through May 16.
SWE-RVA encourages young women who will be in engineering school this fall to apply for these additional scholarship opportunities.Dominion is a longtime supporter of our section, and their Diversity Scholarship Program is wonderful for promoting diversity and inclusion in the engineering profession. Applications are open through May 31. Recipients will receive a stipend and must commit to a paid internship this summer.
We are now accepting applications for our 2016 scholarship! Information and the application are available on our scholarship page. Please share it with any young women who are planning to enter engineering school this fall!
We also have a campaign underway to endow our scholarship. If you are interested in donating, please visit our campaign page.
We have now updated our website to use www.swe-rva.org on all pages instead of just as a forwarding address to our Google Sites address https://sites.google.com/site/ricsocietyofwomenengineers/. If you find any broken links or images, please email us at email@example.com to let us know!
swe-rva.org will forward you to www.swe-rva.org, because Google Sites won't allow us to map swe-rva.org directly.
Our webmaster position is open if anyone would like to volunteer! We could use help with anything from monthly additions to our events and calendar pages to an overall site refresh/update.
Registration is now open for the SWE Region E Conference, co-hosted by our neighbor sections! The Hampton Roads professional section and the Old Dominion University collegiate section are excited to welcome SWE members from across the mid-Atlantic region to Newport News this February.
Our section has lots of events coming up in Richmond too - check out the Events page for details.
Dominion will be hosting a three-session program for high schools students to try out engineering with hands-on activities and a power station tour. See attached flyers for info. Interested students must sign up by this Friday.
The results of our end-of-year survey are posted in the document below. We will discuss them today at noon during our first conference call of the year.
We have posted materials for an outreach activity at https://sites.google.com/site/ricsocietyofwomenengineers/outreach/tower. We are excited to present this activity at the National Coalition of Girls' Schools conference at St. Catherine's School in Richmond!
